Five Acts of Human Kindness

for narrator, SAB chorus, and piano or small ensemble This heartwarming work by Bob Chilcott, created in collaboration with the poet Charles Bennett, celebrates five manifestations of human kindness inspired by real-life events. The stories chosen for the text affirm that every act of kindness matters-not only heroic deeds such as the rescue of a cyclist struck by the 212 bus or generous donations to support vulnerable children, but also simple gestures such as writing 'you are beautiful' on the wall of a London Underground station. Chilcott's music brings these remarkable stories to life, vividly capturing human interactions, the bustle of busy streets, the quiet corridors of a children's hospital, and the whimsical spirit of spontaneous kindness. Five Acts of Human Kindness may be accompanied by piano or a small ensemble of piano, percussion, harp, and strings.
